In our area, Walmart is typically one of the cheapest places to purchase gas. If you have a Sam’s Club Card, you can save another 3 cents per gallon. But there is another way to save on gasoline at Wal-Mart. When you go to Wal-Mart for household supplies or groceries, simply purchase a gift card. Normally cost $30.00 to fill up? Get a $30.00 gift card. You then swipe the gift card at the pump and you can save 3 cents per gallon whether you have a Sam’s membership or not. 3 cents might not sound like a lot. However, let’s say that you and your spouse buy 20 gallons of gasoline a week. You’ll save .60 a week. That is actually more than $31.00 a year. That’s a dinner out. Over the course of your life, you might save as much as $2000.00 or more. Wow! This is another example of small savings adding up over time. Now, imagine that you invested that money and had compound interest on it at retirement. You could at the very least double or triple that amount, although likely it would be a lot more than that.
